Service

Service is an important part of my role as a faculty member. I have had opportunity to do extensive service, both institutionally and for the broader Political Science discipline. Much of this service has been focused on the LGBTQ community. I have served on the leadership teams for all three of the major LGBTQ organizations in Political Science, including I a three-year term on the APSA Committee on the Status of LGBT People in the Profession, several years as the communications officer for the APSA LGBTQ Caucus, and in various roles for the APSA Sexuality & Politics section. For this service, I was honored to receive the first APSA LGBTQ Caucus Early Career Service Award in 2023.

At my institutions, I have served on several committees, including the Non-Tenure Track Faculty Committee at Occidental College and the Promotion & Tenure Policy Committee at Idaho State University. I have also advised student groups, including competitive Moot Court teams at both Occidental College and the University of Connecticut. I am currently the advisor to the Idaho State University Law Club, a student-led group working to increase interest in law, legal careers, and related issues.

At the department level, I currently serve as the pre-law advisor for ISU’s political science department. I am also on our Senior Seminar Curriculum Review Committee, examining the ways that we can improve our major to better serve our students. I have also planned several events for the department, including a State of the Union Watch Party with Q&A. In the fall of 2019, I served as the pre-tenure faculty member on the department’s Tenure Review Committee.

I am also active in my community. I currently serve on the Pocatello Human Relations Advisory Committee, a city-level board that focuses on human rights issues. In Boston, I was a member of the Fenway Health Young Leaders Council. When I lived in Rhode Island, I was on the Board of Rhode Island Pride. In all of these positions I work to bring attention to issues of concern for LGBTQ people and others in the community.
